Each year, utility companies ask the PUC for unreasonable rate increases, putting extra pressure on consumers. Now, they are asking for rate hikes of 10%-30%, which is unacceptable.

We, the undersigned community members, demand that the Public Utilities Commission reject these proposed rate increases from electric and gas companies. These hikes are unjustified and unfair to consumers.

Our Reasons:

Protect Household Budgets: These rate increases will severely strain family budgets, pushing many households towards financial instability. We must not force our community members to choose between basic necessities and utility bills.

Support Small Businesses: Local businesses are already facing economic challenges. Higher utility costs will increase their expenses, potentially leading to layoffs or closures. We need to support our small businesses, not burden them with extra costs.

Defend Seniors and Low-Income Families: Seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities live on fixed incomes and are hit hardest by rate hikes. We have a duty to protect these vulnerable community members from additional financial stress.

Demand Transparency and Accountability: Utility companies have not provided clear and convincing reasons for these rate increases. We demand a transparent review process that holds these companies accountable and ensures any future rate adjustments are fully justified.

Choose Efficiency over Rate Hikes: We urge the Commission to consider alternatives that meet the financial needs of utility companies without burdening consumers. Efficiency improvements, cost-cutting measures, and investments in renewable energy are viable options that can reduce costs in the long term.
