Stop Unlicensed Puppy Sales by Hobby Breeders and Private Breeders

Stop Unlicensed Puppy Sales by Hobby Breeders and Private Breeders
The Issue
After just two weeks of adopting my puppy, I experienced her heart-wrenching death caused by an undisclosed heart condition. Her death, which occurred suddenly and painfully in my arms, followed by collapsing on the floor within 50 seconds.
It was followed by the devastating shock and realisation that I had been misled by false documents handed to me by the breeders. I did the research, I visited the house, I played with the puppy's mother, I ask all the nescessary questions and spent some time there.
Unfortunately, the breeder played a good game. This entire ordeal, not only left me broken hearted and grieving, but also left me financially burdened, with vets costs and the costs for the cremation of my beloved puppy and the loss of any faith I had in myself. The continued flashbacks, over and over, again, have taken it's toll on my wellbeing.
The breederhas shown no compassion, nor did she collect her for return, followed silence and ostracisation. I was left without a refund or any form of support.
Unfortunately, this experience is far too common and highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations on puppy sales by hobby breeders, private sellers, (including puppy farms.)
Currently, the lack of stringent laws allows for hobby breeders and private sellers to operate without a valid council license or verified address, resulting in countless unsuspecting buyers like myself, being scammed and left with poorly bred puppies with hidden health issues.
According to (Insert Reputable Source,) an alarming number of puppies are sold each year without proper health checks and documentation, leading to distressing outcomes for both the puppies and the new owners.
To combat this problem, I propose renewing existing laws on puppy sales to ensure greater accountability and transparency. Specifically, it should be mandated that all puppies sold by these breeders must be 8 to 10 weeks old and come with certain requisites:
1. All potential buyers/adopters should, in the first instance, be furnish with all paperwork and birth certificate, and given ample time to thoroughly read through the details before meeting the puppy in question. It is imperative that they do not form a bond before seeing the paperwork.
2. Each puppy should be microchipped, wormed, flead, vaccinated by 8 weeks, with documented proof from a veterinarian and the vets full details, along with a valid microchip ID card which must be activated before before payment is made.
3. Buyers must receive a full copy of health record of the puppy and both parents and a printed contract before transactions take place.
4. A new puppy should be toilet trained and have basic commands along with a diet sheet and feeding times. The breeder should also inform the buyer on if the puppy is being wet or dry weened and come with a puppy pack.
5. Breeders must always show the puppies with the mother and buyers must be allowed to view their living space and conditions.
Additionally, these breeders must be required to have a valid council license, a legitimate address that corresponds to their registration details, and appear on the electoral roll of the property they reside in.
Enforcing these measures will protect both potential pet owners and the welfare of the puppies, ensuring that no one else has to endure the heartbreak and financial strain I did amd of others that have. It is vital that we hold these sellers accountable and make it much harder for deceptive practices to occur.
I urge you to sign this petition to help bring about change and protect other people and their puppies from the devastating consequences of unregulated puppy sales.
Together, we can ensure happier, healthier future's for puppies and their new owners.
