Stop Unjustified Insurance Premium Hikes!

The issue

Enough is Enough – Stop Unfair Insurance Premium Increases

To: The Relevant Regulatory Bodies and Authorities,

We, the undersigned, are Australians—families, pensioners, workers, and individuals—who are being unfairly burdened by relentless and disproportionate insurance premium increases.

Insurance is meant to protect us, to offer peace of mind during uncertain times. Instead, it’s becoming a source of financial stress and frustration. Year after year, we’re told premiums are increasing due to “inflation,” “reinsurance costs,” or “natural disasters,” but insurers fail to provide clear, region-specific data to back this up.

To make it worse, when we try to ask questions or take control of our policies, we hit a wall.

- Amending or updating policies has become nearly impossible. We spend hours on hold, shuffled from one agent to another.

- When we finally speak to someone, we’re fed generic, scripted answers that tell us nothing.

- Instead of solutions, we get delays, confusion, and the sense that we’re not being heard or valued as customers.

The truth is, we don’t know why premiums are rising—and that’s the problem.

- We don’t know why our bills are going up faster than the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

- We don’t know why we’re paying more even if we live in low-risk areas with no claims history.

- We don’t know why it’s so hard to get help or answers when we need them.

This lack of transparency doesn’t just feel wrong—it may be a breach of the law.

- Under the Insurance Contracts Act 1984, insurers have a legal duty to act in utmost good faith. That includes being honest, fair, and clear about premium changes.

- The Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading conduct. Vague answers and blanket explanations may mislead us into believing these hikes are justified.

- The General Insurance Code of Practice requires insurers to communicate transparently and handle customer concerns fairly.

We demand fairness, accountability, and real answers:

1. Insurers must provide clear, region-specific, and evidence-based justifications for all premium increases. No more vague excuses.

2. Insurers must improve customer support and stop making it so difficult for us to understand, update, or challenge our policies.

3. Regulators must investigate whether insurers are breaching their legal and ethical obligations.

Insurance should protect us—not punish us, frustrate us, or shut us out when we need help the most.

We don’t know why this is happening, and we won’t accept silence, delays, or generic answers anymore. It’s time for insurers to act with fairness, transparency, and respect for the people they serve.
