Stop unjust flagging of LGBTQ+ animation projects on YouTube
The Issue
As Rosetint, a dedicated animator and artist within the vibrant Warriors fandom, I have always been committed to uplifting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community. I express this passion through collaborative animation projects that celebrate Pride and foster inclusivity. Unfortunately, these efforts are being hindered by YouTube's current content moderating practices, which have unjustly flagged numerous multi-animator projects related to the LGBTQ+ movement as "predatory" content.
YouTube's artificial intelligence systems, responsible for flagging potentially harmful content, often misinterpret the context and intent of LGBTQ+ themed projects. The recent surge in unfair targets against these projects not only stifles creativity but also perpetuates a harmful narrative against the community I cherish deeply. YouTube, a platform once lauded for supporting diverse expression, now seems complicit in spreading misinformation through its flawed moderation tools.
This issue is symptomatic of a more significant problem: the reliance on artificial intelligence without adequate human oversight. Algorithms can neither fully understand the diversity and nuances of human content nor effectively distinguish between harmful and empowering messages. This lack of discernment is why I'm calling on YouTube to reconsider its methods.
To address this pressing issue, I propose the following solutions:
1. **Human Review of Flagged Content**: Integrate a prioritized system where human moderators review flagged content, especially those related to sensitive topics such as LGBTQ+ narratives. This will allow for accurate assessments of content that AI might otherwise wrongly categorize.
2. **Comprehensive AI Regulations**: Develop clear guidelines that dictate how AI systems evaluate content. These regulations should be transparent and subjected to regular review to ensure they align with the ideals of inclusivity and creativity.
3. **Encourage Community Feedback**: Rather than relying solely on AI, empower viewers to flag inappropriate content. This communal approach provides valuable insight into the content's intent and effect, strengthening the community's role in maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for fair treatment of LGBTQ+ content creators on YouTube and advocating for changes that will foster true inclusivity and creativity. Together, let's call on YouTube to uphold what it was meant to be – a platform of free expression for all. Please sign this petition to make a difference in protecting the voices of the LGBTQ+ community and promoting fair content moderation.
