Stop Unfair Relocation of Frail Elderly 79-Year-Old Maureen Brum by Notting Hill Genesis
The Issue
Update:
NHG has offered Mum a discretionary tenancy but insists she downsizes from her current three bedroom property to a two bedroom property. They haven't confirmed where yet. Moving would severely harm Mum’s health. The stress from this situation is already making her extremely unwell. She now weighs 5 stone 5 lb. We are currently exploring our options and seeking legal advice, although our hopes aren't high.
This isn't just about housing; it's about basic morality and humanity. That's the heart of the issue for me as her daughter. Her husband was the original tenant and died in 2008. The tenancy was then succeeded based on poor verbal advice from Notting Hill Housing Association. We know there can only be one succession, but these circumstances are exceptional. Her discretionary tenancy should be in the home she loves, not somewhere unfamiliar. Mum’s GP has confirmed that moving her would seriously impact her health.
My mum is 79 and still works six days a week at her small net curtain shop, "Not Just Nets," in Bedfont, West London. Due to severe weight loss caused by stress, her GP has prescribed weight gain shakes and referred her to neurology and a memory clinic. She has high blood pressure and has been waiting over six months for the memory clinic appointment. Meanwhile, her health deteriorates daily. She desperately needs your help.
Mum’s short term memory loss means she struggles with new information. If moved, she will wake up confused, panicked, and distressed every single day. This will accelerate her illness. She could easily get lost, fall, or worse. Her current home has been part of her life for 32 years. She knows her neighbours, local streets, bus routes, and shops. Moving could isolate her completely. If NHG relocates her far away, I'll also struggle to care for her properly. She's worked her whole life, constantly contributing, and now for the first time ever she needs help. Your help.
How You Can Help:
- Sign and share the petition with your friends and family.
- Politely and respectfully email NHG to share your views. If you believe Maureen should be moved, please respectfully say so. If you agree with her daughter and GP that moving Maureen could cause harm, kindly explain your reasons.

Please remember, kindness matters. NHG staff are people too, so always keep your communication polite and respectful.
Email NHG directly at: (info@nhg.org.uk).
Support Maureen’s GoFundMe if you can. Donations aren't expected but mean a lot, as she’s facing financial hardship due to this situation: https://gofund.me/0c229608
Thank you all so much for your support.
How did we get here? NHG ignored our tenancy succession application for three years after Mum’s son (my brother) passed away. When they finally responded, they repeatedly demanded documentation without clarifying exactly what they required or the years needed. They consistently gave bad advice, causing further confusion and delays. NHG’s constant and unnecessary demands for proof have prolonged this situation significantly, directly impacting Mum’s health and causing extreme anxiety. The entire process has been about ticking boxes rather than genuinely helping an elderly, vulnerable woman.
