Stop Unfair Expulsions at York St John University – Protect International Students' Future

Stop Unfair Expulsions at York St John University – Protect International Students' Future
The Issue
A promising international student’s future was destroyed at York St John University due to a disciplinary process riddled with flaws, a lack of transparency, and a shocking disregard for fairness.
This student came to the UK full of ambition, leaving behind family and financial security to pursue higher education. They completed their course successfully, passing all modules with merit, and were preparing to apply for the UK’s Graduate Route Visa (Post-Study Work).
Then came an unexpected disaster:
Seventeen failed card transactions occurred when a relative abroad tried to help pay the student’s remaining tuition. These were technical errors, not fraudulent attempts. The university never informed the student about these failed payments in real time. When the payment was finally successful and fully paid from a legitimate source, the student believed all was well.
But without any formal warning or opportunity for genuine clarification, the university accused the student of fraud and issued the most severe punishment: expulsion.
Despite the student’s cooperation, evidence submission, and zero personal gain from the situation, they were expelled just before graduation. Their visa timeline expired, and with it, their right to remain in the UK and apply for the PSW (Post-Study Work) visa.
Even if the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) later rules in the student’s favor, all they will receive is an apology letter—which cannot undo the permanent damage to their future and immigration status.
🔎 What Went Wrong:
The university never notified the student about the failed payment attempts.
The key evidence (transaction history) was only shared in the final report—not during the investigation interview.
The student’s Students’ Union representative was silenced and not allowed to speak at the hearing.
The student’s written defence was ignored, and no mitigation or intent assessment was considered.
There was no support offered, no counselling, no effort to understand the situation.
The punishment was not just harsh—it was disproportionate, irreversible, and career-ending.
🎓 Why This Petition Matters:
This is not just about one student.
It’s about how a UK university can profit from international students, then discard them without compassion or justice. It's about a system that punishes intent-less mistakes as if they were crimes. And it’s about every future student from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, or anywhere else who might suffer the same fate.
International students bring billions of pounds to UK universities every year. The least they deserve is basic fairness, access to proper support, and the opportunity to defend themselves before their lives are dismantled.
📣 We Demand:
Immediate review and reversal of this student’s expulsion
A commitment to proportional and transparent disciplinary procedures
Stronger support mechanisms for international students, including language and communication support
An external review of how York St John University handles misconduct involving international students
Please sign this petition to demand accountability and compassion from UK universities. Let’s protect the next student before it’s too late.
📢 One administrative mistake should not cost someone their entire future.
