Stop Unethical Reselling Practices

The Issue

Petition to Regulate and End Reseller Exploitation

In today’s world, resellers have turned what should be an exciting moment—purchasing a new product, collectible, or ticket—into an unfair and frustrating experience for everyday consumers. This problem has spread across multiple industries, from makeup and trading cards to sporting event tickets.

The Problem:

Below are just a few examples of industries that are hit very hard by this issue. This problem touches so many different industries, from basketball shoes to furniture.

  • Makeup Industry – Popular releases (like Jeffree Star collections) are bought up instantly, often through automated bots, and resold at inflated prices. Fans who want to enjoy these products at MSRP are forced to either pay scalper prices or miss out entirely.
  • Trading Card Industry – New Pokémon releases are snatched up in bulk and resold the very same day for double the retail price. Collectors, hobbyists, and children—the actual intended audience—are left empty-handed.
  • Sporting & Event Tickets – Bots and scalpers buy large quantities of tickets before real fans have a chance. Tickets are then resold at exorbitant prices, making it nearly impossible for average people to enjoy live events.

Why This Matters:

  • Lost Tax Revenue – Many resellers do not report their earnings, depriving the United States of critical tax revenue.
  • Unfair Backlash on Creators – Brands and creators often receive blame for shortages, when in reality their supply is absorbed by scalpers before genuine customers have a chance.
  • Unethical Profiteering – Resellers profit off another brand’s work without contributing value. They create an artificial scarcity by exploiting technology and market loopholes, inflating prices, and harming consumer trust.

What We Propose:
We call on lawmakers, regulators, and corporations to take action:

  • Make Large-Scale Reselling Illegal – Especially when driven by automated bots or bulk purchasing.
  • Actively Investigate and Penalize Resellers – Treat this as a form of market manipulation and hold offenders accountable.
  • Empower Brands to Protect Consumers – Give companies the tools and authority to cancel reseller purchases and enforce fair purchasing limits.

Our Goal:
We want a fair marketplace where products, collectibles, and event tickets are available at their intended retail price to the people who genuinely want them—not to scalpers looking to profit unfairly. By addressing this issue, we can:

  • Reduce artificial inflation of prices.
  • Increase availability for real consumers.
  • Support creators, brands, and event organizers in building stronger communities.

It’s time to take a stand against resellers and restore fairness to the marketplace.
