The Issue

TriMet plans to eliminate dozens of bus routes and shorten the MAX Green Line due to a budget shortfall. These cuts will hit Portland’s most vulnerable riders hardest—especially low-income workers, seniors, students, and people with disabilities who depend on public transportation every day.

Reliable transit is essential to a thriving, affordable, and connected Portland. Cutting service during a time of rising costs and housing displacement will only make things worse for people who already face barriers to access.

We understand TriMet is facing a financial crisis. But cutting core services is not the answer. Riders need solutions that keep them moving—not more isolation.

We call on TriMet, Metro, and state transportation leaders to:

  • Pause or reverse these proposed service cuts
  • Identify emergency funding to stabilize TriMet’s operations
  • Ensure public input from riders is prioritized before any route changes take effect

Transit is not optional for many people. It’s a lifeline. Sign this petition to demand Portland protects public transportation and the people who rely on it.
