Petition updateStop townhouse development next door to hospice!Save Your Community Hospice! Public Hearing Tues, June 11.
Vancouver Hospice SocietyVancouver, Canada
30 May 2019

Dear supporters,
A Public Hearing has now been scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 for the proposal to rezone a single-family property & build a 4-storey, 21-unit townhouse development at 4575 Granville Street directly adjacent to Vancouver Hospice. This development is NOT affordable housing - and will severely disrupt peace, privacy & access for the 150 Vancouver residents (and families) who come to the hospice each year to die.

The Public Hearing is our last opportunity to stop this development, and save your community hospice! Click here for 3 ways to help

Anyone who considers themselves affected by the rezoning proposal may speak at the Public Hearing. We encourage all of you to take this opportunity to speak out against this application. *Note that we will have designated individuals speaking on behalf of Vancouver Hospice Society as a whole, so you would be speaking as an individual citizen who would be affected.

Please register to speak individually beginning at 8:30 am on May 31, 2019 until 5:00 pm on June 11, 2019 - the day of the Public Hearing - by emailing publichearing@vancouver.ca or by calling 604-829-4238.

We also strongly encourage you to submit your comments in writing, stating why you’re against this application via email to publichearing@vancouver.ca or by mail to:
City of Vancouver, City Clerk's Office
53 West 12th Avenue, 3rd Floor
Vancouver, BC, V5Y 1V4.

This is important, as ALL submitted comments will be distributed to Council and posted on the City's website.

In crafting your comments or speaking points, our advice is to keep your comments concise and personal, and speak from the heart. (eg. state your personal connection to the hospice, and how this development - and possible hospice closure - will affect you personally, and also the organization, patients & families, bereaved individuals, staff, volunteers, the community at large, etc). You may want to prepare a written statement in advance. Note that you don’t need to speak for the full 5 minutes, but only a portion thereof if you like. Even a single, heart-felt sentence could have an impact!

The summary of our main issues are listed in this petition.

For more in-depth info on the rationale for our opposition, see the VHS Report to the City we submitted to the Mayor and City Councillors.  VHS Report to City

For recent media coverage, see Georgia Straight Story

We thank you for your support. Please feel free to forward this to as many people as you can!
