Hello fellow petitioner,
This email is an urgent call to arms: this week - we need your help. Read on to find out what you can do to help us out.
But firstly - thank you for signing. We've been completely blown away by the support we've received with this petition. You’ve helped us make it clear that Bega Valley Shire Council is on notice that our community supports Tiny Homes on Wheels as a solution to the housing crisis. Meanwhile, everything our Council says and does makes us believe that they do not support Tiny Homes on Wheels. Adding fuel to the fire, our mayor, through a Council media release last week, said that he believes that Council is currently facing “unfair criticism” on this issue.
Mayor Fitzpatrick: I respectfully suggest that healthy debate about sustainable housing options during a housing crisis is not “unfair criticism” - it is an essential part of a healthy democracy.
There is clearly a lot of work to do to show our Council that our community care about taking action on the urgent housing crisis. And we need your help: there are two simple actions you can take this week:
1. Call and email Bega Valley Shire Council
If you have time during work hours, please call Council on (02) 6499 2222.
Alternatively, send an email to council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au
Templates are provided below or write your own email if you prefer.
BONUS ACTION: you can contact councillors directly, you’ll find all their details here:
Meet your Councillors and Mayor
2. Share the petition on socials again
Our next goal is 36,000 signatures — the population of the Bega Valley. Together we can show our Council just how many people believe in a reasonable and practical regulatory approach to Tiny Homes on Wheels. A share on Facebook or Instagram goes a looooooong way - especially to any community groups you are part of.
We’re not giving up this fight: Tiny Homes on Wheels are a sustainable, low-cost, rapid, and demand-side solution to the current housing crisis. Residents of the Bega Valley are already living in these dwellings under a sound understanding of the law. It is time for BVSC to stop issuing eviction notices and start working constructively with those trying to live simple, sustainable lives.
Thank you for standing with us - it means the world.

Subject: Bega Valley Residents Support Tiny Homes
Dear Councillors,
I am writing as a supporter of a petition calling on Bega Valley Shire Council to stop issuing eviction notices to residents living in Tiny Homes on Wheels (THOWs).
Almost 22,000 people have signed the petition, reflecting broad support across the Bega Valley for this low-cost, sustainable, quickly implemented, and urgently needed housing option.
I understand that residents have been threatened or issued with fines that exceed $1 million, despite understanding that THOWs are legally classified as caravans or moveable dwellings under NSW legislation. These are not reckless or dangerous developments — they are practical responses to the unaffordable rents, lost homes from bushfires, and lack of local housing supply. They are people’s homes.
As a member of the local community, I respectfully urge you to:
1. Support a moratorium on THOW evictions in the Bega Valley;
2. Advocate for Council to IMMEDIATELY develop a clear, fair, reasonable, and lawful compliance framework for THOW residents;
3. Engage constructively with residents on this issue and recognise the strong community support of tiny home residents.
Please use your role as an elected representative to promote common sense and long-term housing solutions. Thank you for considering this urgent matter.
Yours sincerely,
[Your Full Name]

"Hi there, my name is... and I’m calling to leave a message for Council regarding Tiny Homes on Wheels.
I’m one of over 21,000 people who’ve signed a petition asking Bega Valley Shire Council to stop issuing eviction notices to residents living in Tiny Homes on Wheels.
I’d like to pass on the message that I strongly support a moratorium on Tiny Home evictions, and I believe Council should be working constructively with residents to recognise these homes. This is an important housing solution for the Bega Valley: please pass my message onto the General Manager and Councillors."
