As a concerned parent and member of our community, I am alarmed by the rising influence that TikTok has over our children and young people here in Bulgaria. This platform, while popular, has proven to be a breeding ground for content that is often inappropriate, misleading, and potentially harmful to the impressionable minds of our young generation.

TikTok's algorithm aggressively promotes videos that can contain violent, explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content, which can negatively influence the behavior and mental health of young users. Studies have shown that excessive use of social media platforms like TikTok can lead to issues such as depression, anxiety, and body image insecurities among teenagers.

Moreover, there is an increasing concern about privacy violations, where TikTok has been reported to mishandle user data, raising fears about children's safety online. This is particularly concerning given Bulgaria's growing reliance on digital platforms for education and social interaction.

We believe that TikTok's presence in Bulgaria poses a significant risk to our youth, in part because there are limited restrictions and oversight from the platform itself regarding the nature of available content. Our children's wellbeing should not be compromised by the lure of fleeting online trends and viral content.

Therefore, we urge the Bulgarian government to take decisive action to restrict or fully ban TikTok in our country until significant improvements are made to ensure the safety and appropriateness of its content for young users. Let's prioritize the mental and emotional health of our children and hold platforms accountable for their impact.
