More than half of the Tigray's inhabitants, a staggering 3.5 million individuals, require immediate assistance. 30% of children are facing starvation. 1.7 million more people face the prospect of needing aid in 2024. 

On the five-level scale of food insecurity, from phase one (normal) to five (catastrophe or famine), phase four (emergency) is expected by early 2024 according to UN reports.

Yet, the federal government denies, saying it is providing sufficient aid, and that the information that the drought is changing to famine is wrong information (Ethiopian Disaster Risk Commissioner, Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam). This denial puts millions of lives at risk.

We urge the Member States of the UN Security Council, the US, the EU, the UK, the AU and the IGAD to demand the acknowledgement of the famine by the Federal Government of Ethiopia.

Further, we urge the UN, the US, the EU, the UK, the AU and the IGAD to provide necessary aid to overcome the Tigray famine.
