We are truly delighted to have the support of local son, Inverness-born Actor-Writer-Director Matthew Zajac! Matthew's career on stage, TV, film and radio spans more than 40 years. He is Artistic Director of Dogstar Theatre Company - www.dogstartheatre.co.uk - producing, notably, The Tailor of Inverness, which Matthew wrote and starred in.
"What a short-sighted action, so typical of this grasping, desperate age," laments Matthew, reacting to the impending sale of the Bouchardon bust. He has signed the petition and shared it with several community groups.
Matthew is scathing, however, in his opinion of how this issue reflects on the Council, highlighting this manifestly dismissive approach to culture. As he puts it, "Highland Council is run by a coalition of SNP and Independent councillors, with apparently a large dose of philistinism, led by Raymond Bremner, an SNP member from Caithness."
It is puzzling indeed that the Highland Council, in its deliberations (consult them here) on the sale of the bust, gave so little quarter to the historic and cultural significance of the bust to the town of Invergordon and later to the '45.
Perhaps our petition might encourage them to consider how to get out of the corner they seem to have painted themselves into. Like Matthew, keep sharing and encouraging all who might sign!
