The Issue

Dear Mr. Matthew Pennycook MP,

We believe that the amount of housing planned for Barking Riverside over the

next 20 years is too excessive for various social, environmental, public health

and fire safety reasons as follows here:

Speaking as someone who is actively involved with local community groups

around this borough we would like you to consider all of our objections to this

particular residential scheme of constructing a total of 13,046 housing units within

the Barking Riverside Area on Renwick Road for various reasons. The main

grounds for concern in respect of these plans are the overall height and

density of such a project within an already over crowded and congested

neighbourhood. For a start full attention needs to be given with

regards to providing enough social infrastructure such as NHS hospitals,

surgeries, schools, community centres, public houses, open green spaces,

trees, genuinely affordable social rented homes and transport facilities as well.

Also as this is a high flood risk area building excessive amounts of flats would

not be advisable due to health and safety reasons either considering the fact

that climate change is causing water levels to rise. Another pressing issue is

fire safety with tower blocks when the London Fire Brigade ladders usually go

up to 10 storeys which means that it is not advisable to build above that height

if at all possible.
