Stop theft of solar feed-in tariffs

Stop theft of solar feed-in tariffs
The issue
The energy companies—backed by AEMO—are planning to do away with solar feed-in tariffs, and it amounts to nothing short of corporate theft.
A Billion-Dollar Profit Grab
The big three energy providers are each raking in several billions of dollars per year. Yet, the energy produced by over 4 million Australian households via rooftop solar panels supplies 11.8% of the nation's energy, according to the Clean Energy Council. The argument to remove the tariff is that the grid cannot cope with the influx of solar power from our roofs. However, the real story is more troubling: they want to take this power and sell it at up to 58 cents per kWh—an outrageous profit grab.
Consider this: if each household contributes about 13 kWh per day, the energy companies stand to gain nearly $1 billion extra per month. Meanwhile, what started as a generous feed-in tariff—as high as 60 cents per kWh in Victoria—has been slashed to a mere 3 to 10 cents per kWh in other parts of Australia. Soon, they're even planning to drop the tariff to zero, leaving you paying them just to feed their system.
The Hidden Agenda: Solar Batteries
But there’s more to this story. The move to eliminate feed-in tariffs isn’t just about cutting costs—it’s about creating a new market for solar batteries. Imagine this: for around $10,000, you could buy a battery that supplies 13 kWh, lasting about 4 hours per day. This “solution” isn’t about protecting your solar panel investment; it’s about establishing a $10 billion per annum market, forcing households into an expensive battery ecosystem.
Our Demand: Fair and Fixed Feed-In Tariffs
We deserve better. The original government-sponsored offers promised both environmental benefits and an impressive return on investment within eight years. With the payback period now stretched to 16 years, who would invest in solar panels under these new conditions?
It’s time to demand a minimum of 25 cents per kWh for a fixed period of 10 years. This isn’t just a call for fair compensation—it’s a stand against the systematic erosion of consumer rights and the misappropriation of our sustainable energy contributions.
Join the Movement
This petition will be sent to every Federal and State Energy Minister. It’s time to stand up and say NO to corporate theft. Together, we can protect our investments, our environment, and our right to earn a fair return on our contributions to Australia’s renewable energy future.
