Stop the Wonder Valley AI City Project in Alberta - We will NOT be the 51st state
The Issue
We, the undersigned, stand against the proposed $70 billion Wonder Valley AI city project in Northern Alberta. This development threatens not only Treaty 8 territory but the health, land, and sovereignty of all Albertans — Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
⚠️
Similar AI projects, like Elon Musk’s in Memphis, have caused:
- Pollution and worsened air quality
- Harm to ecosystems and wildlife
- Increased health issues among residents
- Rising energy costs and strained local infrastructure
- Displacement of marginalized communities
We deserve transparency, community consultation, and protection of our environment.
Let’s not allow Alberta to become the next Memphis or the 51st U.S. state under the disguise of “innovation.”
We call on Alberta’s leaders and Chiefs across Treaty 6, 7, and 8 to halt this development until full environmental, spiritual, and community impacts are addressed.
This isn’t just about tech. This isn’t just about Indigenous land. It’s about all of us.
Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities alike will be affected.
Treaty 6, Treaty 7, Treaty 8, Métis settlements, towns, rural farms, even surrounding provinces — we are all connected to this land and will face the fallout.
In Memphis, a similar AI project led to pollution, sickness, and harm to marginalized communities — all behind closed doors. Now, the same blueprint is being laid down in Alberta, and we must act now.
A massive AI city project is quietly being pushed in Northern Alberta — and it could change everything. This isn’t just about technology… it’s about land, power, and who gets left behind.
The $70B Wonder Valley AI City, backed by U.S. investors, could make Alberta the next Memphis — where Elon Musk’s AI facility poisoned the air, harmed ecosystems, and hurt marginalized communities without warning. The development of Elon Musk's xAI supercomputer facility, known as "Colossus," in South Memphis has been fraught with controversy, particularly concerning environmental and community impacts.
To power the supercomputer, xAI installed 35 methane gas turbines, many without the necessary air pollution permits.
These turbines emit substantial amounts of nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde, contributing to air quality deterioration in an area already burdened by pollution.
Residents, particularly in predominantly Black neighborhoods like Boxtown, have reported worsening respiratory issues and other health problems .
Now, Premier Danielle Smith is cozying up to the U.S., and there are whispers of Alberta becoming the 51st state.
Premier Danielle Smith has been proactive in aligning Alberta with cutting-edge technological initiatives.
Notably, the Alberta government partnered with Elon Musk's SpaceX to pilot Starlink internet services in rural areas, aiming to bypass federal internet regulations and enhance connectivity.
Additionally, Smith has expressed strong support for AI hubs, viewing them as "strategic assets to bolster Alberta's economy and technological standing."
I believe this is why she wants to give Alberta to USA as this will be one of the largest AI Data Centres in the world and America loves owning anything with power and this will give them easier access to this AI centre.
What’s happening in Memphis, Tennessee — a hidden AI city development that harmed local communities and the environment — is already being echoed in Northern Alberta. With plans to build the largest AI city in the world near Grande Prairie, we are witnessing a push by corporate and political powers to HAND over Alberta’s land, resources, and sovereignty to U.S. interests.
And it’s not just about Treaty 8. It’s not just Indigenous communities.
This affects everyone in Alberta — Indigenous and non-Indigenous, rural and urban — and possibly surrounding provinces too. We are all tied to this land, and we all have the right to clean air, clean water, and a voice in what’s being built around us.
This isn't just about the economy or innovation — this is about our health, our ecosystems, and our future.
Stand up against secrecy.
Stand up for environmental responsibility.
Stand up for community voices.
Let’s not allow what happened in Memphis to happen here.
We deserve better — all of us.
We’ve seen what happened in Memphis, Tennessee — a so-called “AI innovation” project that promised jobs and revitalization but instead delivered polluted air, sickness, and suffering to its people. That was done behind closed doors, without the voices of the people who live there, and now communities — especially Indigenous ones — are paying the price.
