The Issue

To ALDI Corporate Leadership,

We are the residents of Callahan and the surrounding communities, and we are starting this petition to demand that you STOP the planned downsized conversion of our local Winn-Dixie at 450078 State Road 200.

Do not do this to Callahan. It is a small, single-store community, and this Winn-Dixie is our only full-sized supermarket. Forcing your standard, downsized layout on us strips away our traditional bakery, butcher counter, seafood department, and hot deli.

This decision ignores our infrastructure and directly hurts our local seniors, working families, and rural neighbors who depend on these full-scale services every day.

The conversion would leave Callahan residents without a full-service supermarket inside their community. To put this in perspective, the nearest full sized grocery stores require between 10 to 25 miles of travel. This amounts to 20 to 50 miles of travel depending on the store and other outside variables such as weather and road conditions. This adds between 15 to 40 minutes driving each way before shopping time is factored in.

For seniors, working families, disabled residents, and rural households, this is not a minor inconvenience. It means additional fuel expense, substantial travel time, and reduced access to fresh food and staffed grocery departments.

In addition to this, this Winn-Dixie supports the local West Nassau Highschool Team, the Warriors. By converting this store into an ALDI, you are effectively disrupting an establishment which supports a local highschool team.

Local churches and nonprofit organizations alike also used this particular store to set tables in front of the store for community outreach as well.  Enabling the people of Callahan, Florida to support it's neighbors and advocate for the causes they believe in.

A downsized grocery store would not only affect shoppers, but the community it supports as well.

We refuse to be treated as just a number on a corporate spreadsheet. We demand that you halt this closure and leave our full-service grocery store intact.

For a corporation that allegedly prides itself on the needs and wants of the community, ALDI failed to fully understand the needs and wants of the people of Callahan, Florida!  The people did not want this nor asked for this nor do they care for this!

Please sign this petition to join our demand and tell ALDI corporate to keep their hands off our community lifeline.
