Stop the Whitewashing of January 6 — Tell the Truth About the Attack
The Issue
The White House just launched a new website that rewrites the history of January 6 — portraying violent rioters as “patriotic Americans,” blaming police officers for the chaos, and erasing the real harm done to our democracy and law enforcement.
It’s not just revisionist. It’s dangerous.
The official page falsely claims that the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol was “peaceful,” that police “provoked” violence, and that Donald Trump was the real victim. It omits or distorts key facts, including:
- That 140 officers were injured, some hospitalized
- That 5 officers died shortly after the attack, one directly linked by the D.C. medical examiner
- That Trump repeatedly urged supporters to “fight like hell”
- That courts and bipartisan experts have confirmed no widespread fraud in the 2020 election
This is not a difference of opinion. It’s an official government website spreading provable lies.
It’s being used to justify thousands of pardons — including for violent offenders — and to rehabilitate a narrative that threatens the very foundation of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power.
History matters. Truth matters. And the U.S. government should not be in the business of rewriting reality to protect the powerful.
We are calling on the White House to:
- Immediately remove or revise all false and misleading claims on the official January 6 webpage
- Publicly acknowledge the harm done to law enforcement and American institutions that day
- Commit to preserving accurate historical records through the National Archives and Library of Congress.
This is not about partisanship. Americans across the political spectrum watched the attack unfold in real time. We saw the windows smashed, the officers beaten, the chants calling for lawmakers’ executions. We don’t need the government to tell us it didn’t happen.
Sign this petition if you believe the truth about January 6 must be preserved — not rewritten.
