Tiktok has weekly/daily competitions (depending on the country) called weekly/daily rankings and the rising stars. A big portion of these people are on government benefits, don't work and sit on tiktok all day asking for money. It's becoming a real problem, especially for people with gambling addictions, or lonely and vulnerable people who feel like sending money will get them noticed. There have been multiple people who have got in to serious debt sending big gifts to these 'influencers', people who can't afford to send gifts still do because they get manipulated in to thinking they are part of a 'team'! The 'begging' culture on social media is growing rapidly and something really needs to be done about it. Cost of living is rising and people are struggling to eat, so many of these tiktokers are on sick and disability benefits when it's quite obvious they are more than capable of working, they are receiving these benefits, taking personal donations and taking part in these competitions, they are making thousands! Getting to number 1 in the UK weekly rankings can get you £10k+, I know one of them received £16k, another one £40k, that is for only a week! Meanwhile people are working 40+ hours and are struggling to survive. This is a real problem, also tiktok takes 70% of the money people pay for these gifts. Something needs to happen NOW, we need to stand together and make it happen! Please sign this petition and help get tiktok back to an entertainment app, not a place for begging.
