Stop the wastewater pipeline through Newington

Stop the wastewater pipeline through Newington
The issue
We are proud residents of Newington, and our vibrant community is under threat. The proposed Sydney Water wastewater pipeline is planned to cut through our suburb, posing significant risks to our cherished environment and the community spirit we’ve worked hard to build.
This project threatens Newington’s parklands, known for their beauty and recreational value. For many of us, these green spaces are not just land but lungs of our community, offering fresh air, scenic beauty, and space for families to enjoy. More critically, they serve as a thriving habitat for our local and endangered wildlife. We have a duty to protect these creatures, whose existence depends on the conservation of these natural spaces.
Moreover, the proposed pipeline raises concerning questions about the structural stability of homes along Comaneci Avenue. What assurance do we have that our houses—investments of a lifetime—will remain unaffected by complex engineering and construction activities? This issue is personal to us, and it demands a thorough investigation into possible risks.
The demolition of our beloved dog park is also on the cards. This park is more than a play area; it is a community hub where residents socialize, connect, and enjoy communal life. Disruption here would deprive Newington of a key component of its suburban charm and character.
Traffic flow and public transportation through Newington Boulevard will likely face severe disruptions, affecting our daily commutes, school runs, and overall quality of life. We must consider the cumulative impacts on both our environment and community life before rushing ahead with this project.
We urge Sydney Water to rethink this proposal and consider alternative routes or solutions that prioritize Newington’s green spaces, wildlife habitat, and community infrastructure. The impact on our environment and lives must be minimized.
Please join us in standing up for Newington's future. Add your voice by signing this petition and demanding responsible, thoughtful urban planning that respects both nature and community. Our suburb deserves nothing less.
