Vodafone and Three are in talks for a merger in the UK.

This is bad news for competition and consumers as we'd be downgrading from 4 operators to only 3! Not only that, but we'd be losing the only budget operator in UK - ie Three (CK Hutchison) -  which will be absorbed into Vodafone.

As a result of the merger it's fair to assume that Vodafone will raise the prices, naturally the competition will also raise theirs. In fact it is estimated that the average price will go up by ~16%. [1]

A similar deal between O2 and Three was shut down by the EU in 2016, however due to Brexit we are now outside those regulations and it is up to the CMA to disapprove it. Obviously the citizens need to be vigilant as well and make their voice heard.
