August 2 Update — One Month Into the New Fiscal Year 2026-2027

Our petition has now reached over 700 signatures, showing how many players across Portland care about keeping Portland Tennis Center fully staffed, public, and accessible. Thank you to everyone who has added their name and shared this with others.

As we enter the second month of the new fiscal year, many players have noticed reduced staffing at PTC — including fewer recreation leader hours, slower scheduling, and limited front desk coverage. These changes are happening because the City’s FY 2026–27 budget assumed a future partnership with USTA that has not been approved by City Council. The partnership remains unvoted and unfinalized, yet the staffing reductions were implemented as if it were already in place.

If you would like to share your perspective with City Council, here is a short, neutral email template you can copy and send. Each person can choose one or two Council Members and look up their official email addresses on the City’s website.

Subject: PTC Staffing Concerns for FY 2026–27

Dear Council Member,

I am a player at Portland Tennis Center, and I’m writing to share a concern about the FY 2026–27 budget assumption that USTA would take over tennis programming. Since that partnership has not been approved, PTC is now experiencing a staffing gap — including reduced front desk coverage, recreation leaders, program coordination, and maintenance support.

These reductions are already affecting daily operations, and I’m concerned that PTC may face slower scheduling or possible hour cuts. PTC is an important public facility that serves youth, seniors, and players across the city.

I respectfully ask that the City address this staffing issue and help keep PTC fully staffed, public, accessible, and affordable for everyone.
