I had the chance to talk with Abby when she came to Hiroshima 2 years ago and told me of how she is able to find alternatives to the styrofoam floaties with mushroom ones and she gave suggestions for how Hiroshima's oyster industry could change for the better. Abby is such an inspiration, I am so glad she is now being featured in the media promoting her great ideas for strategies we can put in place worldwide to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans.
Pictures from our latest clean-up event: we did another clean-up on our SACRED island of Miyajima yesterday and another city beach last month, both times the beaches are inundated with styrofoam, plastic discs, plastic tubes and plastic ropes which all come from the Hiroshima oyster industry. This is the SETO INLAND sea so this is NOT coming from anywhere else - this is coming from right here, so this is an opportunity to fix it and stop it here before it drifts to the open seas and negatively effects all of our health and the environment.
