As a resident of West Hyde, Hertfordshire, I am deeply concerned about the proposed development of a Traveller site proposed in here,  specifically GT7 - Land East of Denham Way, Maple Cross. This personal plea stems from the heart of a community worried about the potential consequences that this development could unleash on our local environment and daily lives.

First and foremost, the proposed location is utterly unsuitable for such development. We know that the infrastructure around West Hyde is not built to accommodate the increased traffic and demand that such a site would impose. Narrow roads already struggle with peak congestion, and additional strain would only heighten delays and make daily commutes challenging and unsafe. Data from studies on road capacity highlight the risks of accident increases under similar conditions.

Moreover, we have legitimate fears for the safety and welfare of our community, particularly our children. The introduction of a new site will inflame safeguarding concerns, increasing the risk factors around schools and parks. These spaces must remain sanctuaries for learning and play, not overshadowed by worries about increased traffic and unfamiliar strangers.

The ecological impacts of such a development cannot be ignored either. The site is currently a verdant green field, contributing to the rural charm and biodiversity of our countryside. Transitioning this area into a development site would permanently erase vital greenspaces. Studies, such as those from the National Trust, tell us the importance of green fields in combating climate change and supporting wildlife.

We propose that the council consider alternative sites that are better equipped to handle new developments, with adequate facilities and less impact on existing communities. Appropriate planning and thoughtful decision-making should be focused on sustainable urban planning that respects both human and environmental health.
