Stop the Traffic Lights at Clachan Bridge

Stop the Traffic Lights at Clachan Bridge
The Issue
Our bridge. Our community.
We call on Argyll and Bute Council to stop the traffic light works.
Clachan Bridge is a 234-year-old bridge that sits at the heart of our community.
For generations, it has been the lifeline connecting the slate islands of Seil, Luing and Easdale to the mainland. It is not just a crossing point, it is part of our daily lives, our history and our identity.
Year on year, the world famous bridge attracts thousands of visitors to our community, supporting our local economy and promoting our islands and our way of life.
We are deeply concerned that traffic light works are now underway without clear evidence being shared by Argyll and Bute Council, without proper assessment, and without meaningful community consultation.
We are not against safety.
But safety must be based on evidence, not assumption from a distant desk.
Decisions of this scale, affecting a Category A listed historic bridge and a lifeline route for island communities, must be transparent, properly assessed and accountable.
We are asking for one simple thing:
Stop the works.
There must be a clear evidence base, proper assessment, and meaningful community consultation before any decision of this scale is taken.
This is about respect for the place, the people who live here, those who will always call it home, and the heritage we all value.
This matters deeply to our community.
