Stop the toxic waters of Ergene River from flowing into the Marmara Sea, close the valve

Within the scope of the project carried out under the Ergene Basin Protection Action Plan, the hazardous wastes of the industrial zones in the basin are transported to Tekirdağ through a 200 km pipeline, and from there, directly discharged into the Marmara Sea without further treatment through a 4.5 km pipe laid under the sea. The practice is widely known as "deep discharge".
The discharge highly toxic wastewater since the end of 2020 is one of the main reasons behind the grave ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER in the MARMARA SEA, which was noticed due to the formation of MARINE MUCILAGE.

The images I have shared here were taken on 10 June 2021 at the deep discharge point. In the sonar image in the picture on the right, you can see how the spilled dirt gushes upwards from a depth of 47 meters due to its density.

I am writing this message as an ordinary citizen who loves his country and its environment, and hereby calling out to the relevant authorities to please:
- Shut down the "DEEP DISCHARGE" valve in Tekirdağ immediately,
- Amend the laws and regulations on WASTEWATER,
- Abandon the practice of "deep discharge" system which is widely used in sea and lake shores.
