We appreciate the more than 2200 people who signed this petition against the Lewis Oil development of a gas station at the intersection of NC 107 and S. River Road just south of the Sylva town limits. Your response to the petition has been humbling.

Because the developer, Cody Lewis, was able to secure his permits and zoning prior to the project becoming public knowledge, we started way behind in our efforts to oppose the idea.

At this point, our only path to stopping the project is to convince Mr. Lewis to sell the property to Jackson County. We believe there is a majority consensus among the board of commissioners to pay Mr. Lewis his costs and buy the property.

We are asking that our petition supporters respectfully contact Mark Letson, chair of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, and County Manager Kevin King, and urge them to make Mr. Lewis an offer.

Failing this, Mr. Lewis continues to proceed with land clearance and grading and we will have to assume he will see his project to completion.
