'Every day our future generation of young people are being denied access to the toilet during school time.

 

Schools up and down the country are depriving students of the basic human right of being able to visit the bathroom when they need to. This is demoralising and setting a negative moral message. 

 

We need to act now to allow pupils the freedom to learn in comfort. This is a national problem in many schools which needs resolving immediately for the benefits of all. Pupils, parents and teaching staff agree toilet restrictions are not acceptable.

 

Please support our learners to feel supported.No workplace denies anyone the basic right to toilet facilities when needed, we need to afford young people the same respect. 

 

We need to get this changed nationally as a matter of urgency'Girls want to go to the toilet and do what they need to do at certain times of the month and certainly not walk out to be faced with boys, potentially laughing, making fun of them or making them feel uncomfortable. I know the is the last thing I would want regardless of the time of the month. 

Not only is this happening across the country but many schools have now resorted to locking the toilets to avoid children using them at inconvenient times. Inconvenient to who? Why is this happening all over the country? Why are children’s basic needs not been met? Why is it ok for our children to suffer in school if they have forgotten to use the toilet at break times so need to pop there on the way to next lesson or during the lesson. Some children may not have great bladder control or may be on their periods so need to go more regular. Should they be made to feel like they cannot ask for a basic need to be met in fear of embarrassment? Should girls who have not long started their period or have heavy periods have to leak because they aren’t allowed to use the toilet? Should our children be getting water infections because they’ve had to hold themselves in for too long? Should our children be fearful of going to school because of this?

 

If this continues there will be higher numbers of truancy, children refusing to go to school and parents not wanting to send their children. Fines been handed out for children not attending. Financial hardship. Where does it stop? 

 

This is absolutely disgusting and shouldn’t be happening in this day! Schools are not concentration camps and our children should not be fearful! They should go to school for eduction, instead what are they being taught? To toilet when told, to eat when told, to have no privacy, only when told!
