I moved to this tranquil part of Scotland for its serene countryside, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and a way of life that is both peaceful and fulfilling. However, the very essence of what makes our rural valley special is under threat. SSEN plans to construct a massive 400kV substation and a 2GW HVDC converter station at Cruchie, near Huntly, a project that would irreversibly transform our community.

This development would result in the destruction of prime agricultural land, replacing it with industrial buildings, intrusive fencing, and constant noise and traffic, forever altering the peaceful nature of our surroundings. Moreover, the site chosen is perilously close to a river that supports protected otter species, an integral part of our local ecosystem.

The plans also threaten the health and well-being of local residents, as we face potential lifelong stress from visual blight and a significant reduction in property values. Many of us did not choose to live in the proximity of a massive energy factory, and this project isn't addressing local needs. Far from it — Scotland already generates excess renewable electricity. This enormous industrial project seems more aligned with exporting power for profit than meeting any local demand or requirement.

Worse still, alternative sites that are less harmful and situated on more commercial land along the coast haven't been considered in the proposal. It is vital that we protect our community and natural habitat from this misplaced development.
