Dear Commissioners and Managers of McIntosh County, GA

Coming like a sudden gust of March wind is news that the county is going to apply herbicides to our roadsides, threatening a magnificent array of native flowering plants, many of which are a food source and host plants to crashing bee and monarch butterfly populations.  Our roadside areas are among the last stands where these plants persist. 

And at what cost?  The threat of raising taxes over several thousand dollars in savings by applying chemicals in lieu of mowing is not an argument with wings.  Please vote to cancel the contract. And, with public input, let’s develop a plan to preserve and keep our roadside habitats safe, attractive, and chemical free.
