STOP THE SOLAR FARM

STOP THE SOLAR FARM
The Issue
It’s not just about solar—it’s about location, impact, and community input.
To the Parish Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Local Government Officials:
We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders of Washington Parish and the surrounding community, respectfully submit this petition to express our strong opposition to the proposed placement of a large scale solar panel farm within close proximity to our homes, farmland, schools, and natural resources.
While we support responsible energy solutions and recognize the importance of renewable energy, we believe the proposed location of this solar facility presents serious concerns for the long term wellbeing of our community, local wildlife, property owners, and the health and safety of our families. Development of this magnitude must be carefully evaluated, and the voices of the people who live here must be central to the decision making process.
Community and Economic Impacts
The construction of an industrial scale solar farm in a residential or rural area may result in:
- Decreased property values for nearby homeowners
- Loss of agricultural land and rural character
- Increased heavy truck traffic during construction
- Noise from inverters, transformers, and maintenance equipment
- Visual impact on the landscape and community aesthetics
- Potential strain on local infrastructure and emergency response services
- Limited long term local job creation after construction is completed
Our homes and land represent lifelong investments. Decisions that affect our property and quality of life should not be made without our full participation.
Environmental and Wildlife Concerns
Large scale solar developments require significant land clearing and alteration of natural habitats. Potential environmental impacts include:
- Disruption or displacement of native wildlife and migratory species
- Loss of trees, wetlands, and natural vegetation
- Soil erosion and increased stormwater runoff
- Impact on pollinators, birds, and local ecosystems
- Flooding risks due to altered drainage patterns
- Long term land degradation and uncertainty about land restoration after the project ends
We have a responsibility to protect the natural environment that sustains our community and future generations.
Health and Safety Concerns
Residents have expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with placing large electrical and industrial energy infrastructure near homes and families, including:
- Fire risks associated with electrical equipment and battery storage systems
- Chemical exposure if solar panels are damaged by storms, flooding, or fire
- Glare and heat effects that may affect nearby residents and road safety
- Uncertainty about long term exposure to industrial scale energy infrastructure
- Emergency response challenges in the event of equipment failure or severe weather
The safety and health of our families, especially our children and elderly residents, must always be the highest priority.
Right to Community Input and Transparency
We firmly believe that We the People have the right to be informed, consulted, and heard before any project of this scale is approved in our community.
We respectfully request:
1. A halt on approvals, permits, or construction activities related to the proposed solar farm.
2. A comprehensive environmental and community impact study conducted with full public disclosure.
3. Public hearings scheduled at accessible times for residents.
4. Clear communication regarding zoning changes, land use decisions, and long term maintenance plans.
5. Consideration of alternative locations that minimize impact on residential areas and farmland.
6. Assurance that no project will proceed without meaningful community participation.
We believe progress should never come at the expense of our families, our land, or our voice.
By signing this petition, we are making a declaration that we stand together to protect our community and ensure responsible decision making.
