Stop the Sandy Lane West, Billingham housing development

Stop the Sandy Lane West, Billingham housing development
The Issue
As a resident of the community and a parent with children attending St Paul's school and Northfield school on Thames Road, I have grave concerns about the proposed housing estate on Sandy Lane West, Billingham (Ref: 25/2162/OUT). This development threatens the well-being of our community on multiple fronts.
Firstly, the NHS services in our region are already at full capacity, creating a critical infrastructure risk that will only be exacerbated by the influx of residents from 170+ new homes. The strain on our healthcare system will impact the quality and accessibility of care for all local residents (many of which are elderly).
Moreover, the increased traffic resulting from this development is deeply concerning. Our roads are currently struggling to handle existing volumes, and adding more vehicles will exacerbate congestion and increase the risk of accidents (which we have had a number of). This development will also bring challenges in emergency access and fire safety due to increased traffic and congestion.
Another significant issue is environmental health. The construction of the estate is expected to last up to four years, during which time residents will be subjected to noise, dust, and vibration disturbances. These activities threaten not only our quality of life but also pose health risks.
Biodiversity is another critical area of concern. The site hosts local wildlife, including barn owls and bats, whose habitats are at risk from large-scale construction activities. This development contradicts our Local Plans, posing serious environmental conflicts.
We urge the authorities to reconsider this proposal in light of its disruption to community welfare and biodiversity. By supporting this petition, you are joining us in safeguarding our neighbourhood from unsustainable development.
Moreover, these plans are not part of the current local plan. The council have already exceeded their five year housing target.
Please sign this petition to protect the health, safety, and environment of Billingham, and ensure that future development aligns with both community needs and sustainable growth.
