It had been a normal working day for Pooja as she walked back from office in the late hours amid Delhi traffic. As she was walking down a dark lane, a man on a motorcycle passing along the road stopped by her side. And. SPLASH! There she was standing, stunned, as the boiling acid seeped into her skin.

A brutally cheap bottle of acid and an inhumane intent is all it takes to ruin hundreds of lives, like Pooja’s, every year.

This campaign is an endeavour of enthusiast and empathetic citizens to stop the sale of acid in open market and to enforce strict laws. Realizing that a lot has to be done for the rehabilitation of these victims, NIRMAAN Organization has come forward to work around these goals. This petition is also to increase awareness among the citizens about the horrendous effects of these attacks and prevent them from happening further. 

More than 500 cases of acid attacks in the past year were reported in India and many more go unreported. Around 85% of these victims are young women. Studies show that 34% of cases are because of the refusal in sexual advances or marriages.

If you have heard of such brutality and would like to take a step for it, please sign the petition and share amongst your groups- for you will agree, that this should come to an end.

With 50,000 signatures on the petition, we will try to bring in following amendments:

I. The Supreme Court has given guidelines in 2013 regarding the selling of acid in open market. Immediate action must be taken in all states & Union Territories to make laws based on those recommendations and must be implemented strictly.

II. The Government should set up a National level Council comprising of representatives of all government ministries/departments, women right activists, lawyers, doctors and the like, with its duties and responsibilities as follows:
1) Keeping a check on acid production, transportation, storage and sale.
2) Ensuring free medical treatment, monetary compensation, legal assistance and rehabilitation to the victims.
3) To educate the public regarding the use of acid and the required safety precautions to be taken as well as making them aware of the consequences of misuse of acid.

III. Fast Track Courts (FTCs) must be set up for disposal of cases related to offences against women, to ensure a quick justice.

पूजा हमेशा की तरह देर रात में अपने ऑफिस से घर को लौट रही थी। रास्ते में एक मोटोरसाइकिल सवार उसके पास आकर रुका, वह जब तक कुछ समझ पाती उसने उसके चेहरे पर एसिड फेंका और भाग छूटा।

एक सस्ती सी एसिड की बोतल एवं बदले की भावना हर साल सैकड़ों महिलाओं का जीवन बर्बाद कर देती है।  उसे मालूम था कि ये निर्मम घटना, जिसमें उसका कोई दोष नहीं था, उसके पूरे जीवन को बादल कर रख देने वाली है।

पिछले वर्ष भारत में 500 से अधिक एसिड-हमलें दर्ज हुए हैं। इन मामलों में 85 प्रतिशत से अधिक पीड़ित युवा-महिलाएँ रही हैं। एक अध्ययन के अनुसार 34 प्रतिशत मामलों का मुख्य कारण शादी एवं यौन-सम्बन्धों के लिए इंकार करना रहा है।

इस याचिका पर हस्ताक्षर कीजिये ताकि निम्नलिखित बदलाव लाए जा सके –

1)   सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा 2013 में खुले में चल रहे एसिड के धंधे के संबंध में कुछ निर्देश दिए गए थे। सभी राज्यों व केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों तुरंत प्रभाव से कोई ठोस कदम उठाना चाहिए ताकि इन निर्देशों के आधार पर मज़बूत नियम बनाए जा सके व उनका सख्ती से पालन हो।

2)   सरकार को एक राष्ट्रीय-स्तर की परिषद का निर्माण करना चाहिए जिसमें हर सरकारी कार्यालय का प्रतिनिधि, महिलाओं के अधिकारों की बात करने वाली कार्यकर्ता, चिकित्सक एवं वकील को सम्मिलित किया जाना चाहिए तथा इस परिषद के कुछ निश्चित कार्य होने चाहिए जो कि इस प्रकार है-
क)     एसिड के उत्पादन, परिवहन व भंडारण पर पूरी नजर रखना।
ख)    पीड़ित को मुफ्त इलाज की सुविधा, मुआवज़ा, कानूनी-सहयोग व पुनर्निवास दिलवाना। 
ग)     जनता को एसिड का उपयोग करते समय ध्यान में रखी जाने वाली सावधानियों से अवगत कराना व उसके गलत इस्तेमाल करने पर होने वाले परिणामों से भी अवगत करना। 

3)   महिलाओं को जल्दी न्याय दिलवाने हेतु फास्ट ट्रेक कोर्ट स्थापित करना ताकि इस प्रकार के मामलों में जल्दी निर्णय लिए जा सकें।
