Stop the Roundabout at 3500 East and Bengal Blvd

The Issue

This is personal to me because my home will be taken by eminent domain, and I have lived here and raised my children for 25 years. I have put my love, heart, and soul into my home and community. The proposed roundabout at the intersection of 3500 East and Bengal Blvd aims to reduce idling and emissions but lacks environmental impact studies to support this idea. It will keep speeds up through an intersection where people, including children going to school, cross daily.

Further, this project requires the removal of 6-7 homes and a gas station at a cost exceeding $20 million. Studies indicate that roundabouts can increase auto-pedestrian accidents (source: Federal Highway Administration). A blinking stoplight with pedestrian flags would be a safer alternative.

Please note the documents are in the Wastach Front Regional Council Proposed Projects by the Cottonwood Heights City Council.  There are meeting minutes Found from July of 2023 that also discuss this. And there are a few other times it comes up.  It is on the agenda however, there are people at city hall whom will say it is not happening.  So long as it is a listed agenda item, I am concerned.
