Stop the Rollback of Protections for Sacred Lands and National Monuments

The Issue

A dangerous legal opinion from Trump's Justice Department claims that presidents can abolish national monuments—putting every protected site in the U.S. at risk.

If the protections are lifted, it would allow the president to hand over national monuments to oil, gas, and mining companies—without public input and against the wishes of Indigenous communities and conservationists.

This includes the Chuckwalla and Sáttítla Highlands which are wildlife refuges and protected at the request of Native American tribes.

These are sacred Native lands, fragile ecosystems, and historic cultural sites across the country—many of which were protected after decades of grassroots efforts.

Companies could move in to drill for oil, mine for minerals, or exploit public lands for commercial gain. These destructive activities would scar landscapes forever, and destroy habitats for species found nowhere else.

These are places of deep cultural, historical, and ecological value. Some, like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, were already targeted during Trump’s first term—and the only reason they were saved is because millions of people spoke out.

We must act now—before more damage is done.

We’re calling on Congress and the Trump Administration to:

➤ Defend the Antiquities Act as a tool for permanent protection.
➤ Reject any attempts to undo monument designations.
➤ Protect sacred, historic, and natural sites from exploitation—forever.

These lands belong to all of us. Once they’re drilled, mined, or destroyed, we can’t get them back. Stand with us to keep national monuments and our environment protected for future generations.
