Stop the rezoning from residential to industrial and protect the residents of Valley View
The Issue
Petition Summary:
We, the residents of Valley View (Davis Valley Dr, Columbia, TN), oppose:Health and Safety
The proposed rezoning from A2 to M2 465 feet from our homes, and
Any rezoning of the property from A2 (Agricultural) to M2 (Heavy Industrial), which would allow industrial operations near residential neighborhoods. If this is allowed to happen, there's no stopping it from happening to any residential area.
Our community includes children, elderly, and immunocompromised residents, who would face serious health risks from dust, silica, and truck traffic.
- Why We Oppose the Plant & Rezoning
Health Risks: Concrete plants emit fine dust (PM2.5/PM10) and silica linked to asthma, COPD, heart disease. Automotive plants can pose the same risks with harmful chemicals renewed into our air.
Noise & Traffic Hazards: Heavy machinery and trucks would disrupt life and create safety risks.
Property & Community Impact: Rezoning to M2 opens the door to any industrial facility next to homes, reducing property values and changing the neighborhood character permanently.
Environmental Concerns: Runoff from cement plants or automotive plants can contaminate soil and groundwater.
---Reasonable Alternatives
Industrial operations should be located in existing industrial zones, such as:
Columbia Industrial Park (Industrial Park Rd area)
Cherry Glen Industrial Park
These areas are properly equipped, buffered, and zoned for heavy industry.
---What We’re Asking For
1. Deny rezoning from A2 to M2.
2. Deny or postpone the concrete plant or auto plant permit.
3. Require full environmental, air quality, noise, and traffic studies before any approval.
4. Restrict industrial operations to properly zoned industrial areas, away from homes.

Help us protect Valley View and surrounding neighborhoods from industrial encroachment. Our children, seniors, and immunocompromised neighbors deserve a safe and healthy community.
