Stop the Return of Cruel Deer Trapping in Georgetown TX

Stop the Return of Cruel Deer Trapping in Georgetown TX
The Issue
In Georgetown’s Sun City community, gentle white-tailed deer roam freely, a peaceful and natural part of our Texas landscape. But now, a disturbing and inhumane deer trapping program could return in 2026, and we need to speak up before it's too late.
Under this program, deer are lured with corn beneath large drop nets. When the net falls, terrified animals are trapped, physically restrained, and then loaded into trailers where they are taken away to be euthanized. Residents have described hearing the deer scream in fear and pain as they are transported — an image that’s hard to forget.
This method of animal control is not only outdated, it is deeply traumatizing to both animals and the people who live among them. There are nonviolent alternatives to managing deer populations — strategies that are more humane, less invasive, and better aligned with the values of a compassionate community.
Sun City residents should not have to witness, or participate in, the suffering of the very animals that make this region special. We believe there is a better way to coexist, one that doesn’t rely on fear, force, or death.
We call on the Sun City Community Association Board to reject the return of this trapping program and instead pursue non-lethal, ethical wildlife management practices that respect both animals and residents.
The deer don’t have a voice in this, but we do.
Please sign this petition to protect the deer of Sun City and show that cruelty has no place in our neighborhoods.
