The Issue

I rely on the original 211 bus route as one of my primary means of transportation in the Montreal area. As someone living with a disability, I don't drive, and the unpredictability of the current replacement taxi service, which requires calling at least a half-hour ahead of time, creates unnecessary stress. Therefore, I've always depended on the efficiency and effectiveness of the 211 route.

The taxi in Baie Durfe, nicknamed the Highway to Hell, will go to really undesirable locations like the notorious Vivisection lab International Toxicology Research, which does horrible experiments on monkeys, dogs, and other animals.  Likewise, the Senneville Highway to Hell will go to the horrible Charles River Vivisection Laboratory.  No residents were consulted.

The decision by transportation authorities to change the route of the 211 bus so that it now travels along Montrose Street, a narrow residential area, poses significant safety risks for pedestrians and residents living in the neighborhood. This road is simply not equipped to handle the volume and size of a bus, putting both pedestrians and drivers at risk of accidents.

Moreover, the new 211 route completely bypasses crucial areas and connections. Previously, the 211 facilitated travel from Ste Anne de Bellevue to key areas such as McGill University McDonald Campus, high schools, elementary schools, Baie Durfe, Beaconsfield, Pointe Claire, and Dorval along Bord De Lac Street, serving as a crucial link, especially for students and commuters. The newly proposed route begins in Beaconsfield, disconnecting the entire west of Beaconsfield and failing to connect any locations along the lakeshore, which diminishes its reach and utility significantly.

What we need is not a rerouted or curtailed bus service but an additional one. I propose that transportation authorities add an entirely new bus service north of Highway 20 and the train tracks, possibly along Elm Street or Windermere Street, that would connect North Beaconsfield and Kirkland with the rest of the Island of Montreal. This would serve the dual purpose of maintaining existing routes while adequately addressing transit gaps without impinging on narrow residential roads.

I urge anyone who understands the importance of safe and accessible public transportation in our neighborhoods to sign this petition. Help us convince municipal authorities to prioritize community safety and transportation needs effectively.
