The Tennessee House of Representatives sent a terrible message in support of intolerance and bigotry on April 25 by passing HB600 - the “Special Access to Discriminate” Act.

The SAD Act would repeal workplace provisions recently enacted by Nashville Metro Government that protect employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. SB632 will deny employees of Nashville Metro contractors any protection from being fired because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

This legislation sends a mean-spirited message that reflects poorly on Tennessee.

The Tennessee Senate’s State and Local Government Committee will hear the Senate version of the SAD Act (SB632) on Tuesday, May 3.

It’s time to send a message that the legislature has no business interfering with the affairs of local communities in Tennessee.
