Why this petition matters

Started by Emma Brooke

Because of serious damp problems it is proposed by the Diocese in Leeds that the 15th Century clock tower attached to the historical church (both of which are built in local stone, in keeping with all the local buildings in the surrounding area) be rendered in a white or cream colour as can be seen at the base of the tower in the attached photographs.  The church is not only highly visible in the surrounding village but is a focal point for the whole of the upper Dale and can be seen for many miles around.  Should it be rendered it would 'stick out like a sore thumb' and be totally out of keeping with its surroundings.

We ask that the Diocese give consideration for alternative & less intrusive measures to be investigated to remedy the problem, and that they do not proceed with the current plan .
