Petitioners,

Through a recent Freedom of Information request, we were able to retrieve more information on the waste of public resources associated with the Dundas renaming. Although many documents were redacted, we learned that the total cost to municipal coffers to rename the two TTC stations, a library, and the square is an astonishing $2.7 million. Furthermore, we were able to review the RFP, winning bid, and supplier agreement with an agency called d.PE who won the six-figure contract to “rebrand” the square, and “re-educate” us on the importance of Sankofa.

This trove of documents further demonstrates how a small group of activists were able to successfully manipulate city councillors into voting for such an absurd initiative at a time when the city suffers from far more pressing issues. This abuse of public money and assault on Toronto’s identity continues to be a shameful episode in our city’s history.

We have uploaded the 133-page document in its entirety for public review. You can find the link here: https://issuu.com/integrityto/docs/yds_foi_request?fr=xKAE9_zU1NQ
