Petitioners:

The battle to save our city from poor leadership has only just begun. Over the past several months, the majority of Torontonians have experienced a clear wake-up call, and if we don’t act now, our beloved city will continue to decline. The so-called “progressive” bloc of councillors who currently control City Hall have proven themselves incapable of making responsible decisions, instead clinging to a radical worldview where ideology comes before common sense . The Dundas renaming debacle is a prime example of their failure.

The callous dismissal of our petition and the mockery directed at its writers, along with councillors tone-deaf response to widespread civic opposition, speak volumes about the incompetence of this council. The next election is two years away, and we will not forget.

Equally troubling was the Integrity Commissioner’s decision to ignore our valid complaints against several councillors. We raised concerns about Shelley Carroll labelling all petitioners ‘racist.’ Amber Morley admitting to intentionally avoiding public consultation. Gord Perks making reckless statements like “The revolution is coming,” knowing that local and foreign actors are stirring division in society. Chris Moise even called a constituent ‘racist’ simply for disagreeing with him. And what was the Integrity Commissioner’s response? “I do not have jurisdiction unless Council adopts a motion for me to investigate.” This supposed rule isn’t listed on the website, and if those being investigated control whether an inquiry takes place, how can the process claim to be impartial? The Integrity Office itself seems to be lacking integrity.

And that’s the heart of the issue: a complete lack of integrity. From the moment a flawed petition was presented to John Tory to rename Dundas Street, this council has shown little integrity, a value desperately needed at City Hall.
