The Issue

The Basildon Borough Council is posing a threat to the affordability and accessibility of its public parking facilities in all council run car parks across Basildon including Wickford and Billericay, by proposing increased parking charges, removal of free evening and weekend parking in the Wickford Ladygate, Main and Pool car parks, Billericay High street, Radford Way and Lake Meadows as well as extended payment periods. This will have detrimental effects on both residents and local businesses. With these changes, many may find it unfeasible to park in town, impacting local businesses that rely on the patronage of these residents. The right to accessible and free or affordable parking should be preserved, and the proposed increase in charges along with removal of free parking at weekends stands in opposition to this principle. We call on our local council to reconsider these changes and reinstate free weekend (3 hour max stay to keep spaces available)and evening parking in the interest of supporting our local economy and services to residents.  Please express your support by signing this petition today.  Please also e-mail your objections to legal.admin@basildon.gov.uk.
