The Issue

Wild horses have been part of America’s landscape for generations, long before many of us called this land our home. These majestic creatures, living symbols of our country's history, roam freely on the public lands they have known for centuries. This is their rightful home, and they deserve to live with dignity and autonomy. Yet, these animals are facing unnecessary removal and destruction, stripping them of their freedom and threatening their survival.

The current government policies often involve rounding them up and confining them in crowded holding facilities, which can be traumatic and harmful to their well-being. These actions are not only cruel but also unnecessary. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) frequently cites overpopulation as a reason, yet many reports suggest that the wild horse population is not as abundant as claimed, questioning the validity of these drastic measures.

Moreover, the lands these horses inhabit are public; they belong to all Americans who cherish the natural heritage and biodiversity they represent. The solution to this issue lies not in removal, but in adopting a more humane, science-based management plan. This can include fertility control, habitat restoration, and the protection of these creatures’ natural resources. By focusing on harmonious coexistence and respecting the ecological significance of wild horses, we can ensure their survival for generations to come.

Furthermore, wild horses contribute to their ecosystems by naturally grazing on grasses and brush, which can help prevent wildfires and maintain the ecological balance of these areas. Protecting their habitat aligns with broader environmental conservation efforts.

We urge our leaders to recognize the importance of humane, science-backed strategies in managing wild horse populations. Policies should prioritize their protection and focus on sustaining their habitats rather than removing them from their natural environments.

Please stand with us in demanding change. By signing this petition, you are voicing your support for the preservation of America’s wild horses and urging lawmakers to adopt compassionate management practices that respect both these magnificent animals and the lands they inhabit. Together, we can ensure that wild horses continue to thrive on the public lands they call home. Thank you for your support.
