THIS PETITION HAS NOW BEEN LODGED WITH THE CITY OF SUBIACO AND WE NOW AWAIT THE COUNCIL’S DECISION.

Several years ago, my family chose the rose garden in Rankin Gardens in Rokeby Road, Subiaco, as the final resting place for our mother's ashes. We selected this garden specifically for its serene beauty, its connection with our mother’s history and the belief that it would continue as a place of quiet reflection and peace behind the historic Fallen Soldiers Memorial. 

Roses have been grown in Rankin Gardens for over a century. The Gardens provide a tranquil, shady, green oasis from the bustling activity of Rokeby Road, providing a sanctuary to relax and reflect. The City of Subiaco's Civic Precinct plans will destroy this cherished space, by replacing the existing gardens with a festival lawn, pavilions and stage for community events.

There is already a perfectly good outdoor events space with a stage and lawns  290 metres away in the Subiaco Theatre Gardens. These facilities could be upgraded if necessary.

I urge the City of Subiaco to reconsider its plans in respect of Rankin Gardens, to honour its history and its part in Subiaco’s heritage, to respect its position behind the Fallen Soldiers Memorial and protect it as a sanctuary for present and future generations.
