  • The city of Sunrise has proposed a master plan application for the development of a Camino Real property in the Indian Trace Shopping Center. This shopping center contains local businesses such as One’s Italian Grill, Wings in Weston, Del’s Barber Shop, and La Pequeña Colombia Bakery & Restaurant. Furthermore, it would IMPACT larger community staples like AMC and Dollar Tree which are vital economic and social locations for the Sunrise and Weston area.
  • The creation of this hotel would impact local jobs and family-owned businesses and has the possibility to put many out of work. This also further commercializes our community and would largely increase the traffic in the area. Property value may also decrease due to this installment. Overall, this addition would be largely harmful to us people.
  • From our general understanding (this will be more specified after the January 13th meeting), the project appears to be taking place in two "phases." The first phase involves a hotel located behind the AMC Weston 8 as circled in Figure 1 (The triangle with lines going across). The second phase was phrased for vaguely, but would go over the entire shopping center besides the Circle K and School as circled in Figure 2. This "Phase 2" could include buildings like apartment complexes that, while separate from the hotel, it still included in the project by the Real Camino company. For an unedited version of this image, please scroll down to Figure 5.

  • The decision makers for this are the city of Sunrise, and, by extension, the Sunrise mayor Michael J. Ryan. As helpful as this petition may be, it will likely not be enough of its own. We need to send letters to the city and SHOW UP TO THE ONLINE AND IN-PERSON MEETING REGARDING THIS ISSUE:

  • The number for more information was listed as 954-395-2401, however upon calling we were sent to voicemail.
  • Please do NOT give money, even if the website prompts you to. The best thing to do is share and come to the meeting if possible.
  • Importantly, nothing is set in stone or decided yet. This is simply a petition to show the community's opposition to such an idea that will be shown at the meetings.

Thank you for all the support in this issue. However we need help. I, Jett Grom, and co-petitioner Paul Gracey are only teenagers (who can't yet drive) and can only spread so much information by going door-to-door and business-to-business. Please share on websites like Facebook and Nextdoor so more can learn about this.
