Stop the RDN Crown Lease for the Land-Based Walkway Benefitting Only Seacliff Properties

The Issue

The owners and residents of Schooner House and concerned community members strongly oppose the RDN's application for a Crown lease to create a land-based pedestrian walkway in front of our homes. This project is redundant, unnecessary, and a waste of taxpayer dollars with the only real beneficiary being Seacliff/Fairwinds.

Why We Oppose This Project

- Unnecessary Addition: There are already many existing public water access points nearby, making this an unnecessary addition at public expense.

- Lack of Transparency & Community Consultation: Despite repeated attempts to engage, Schooner House owners have been ignored, misled, and stonewalled throughout the process. Decisions have been made behind closed doors, excluding the very people most impacted.

- Disregard for the Natural Environment: The proposed project shows no consideration for the existing coastal ecosystem. Increased human activity will harm the shoreline, impact marine life, and disturb the peace of a natural area that has thrived without interference.

- Threats to Privacy & Security: The proposed walkway would significantly reduce the privacy and security of homeowners, placing a publicly accessible pathway directly in front of residential properties with a ground level sight line.

- Rushed & One-Sided Decision-Making: It is clear from meetings with the RDN and Seacliff/Fairwinds that this project has been pre-approved without genuine consideration of community concerns. Residents have been presented with arbitrary plans, not options.

What We Are Demanding

1. Reject the RDN Crown lease application for the land-based walkway.

2. Conduct a transparent and fair review that genuinely considers community input.

3. Prioritize responsible land use planning at Schooner Cove that serves the residents and our concerned community, not just private developers.

4. Protect the existing environment and wildlife by preventing land-based walking access to this area, an ecologically sensitive zone.

Take Action Now!

Sign this petition to demand that the RDN and relevant decision-makers halt this unnecessary and harmful project. We must protect our homes, our community, and the integrity of public decision-making.
