The Issue

As citizens of Nova Scotia, we bear the solemn responsibility to protect and nurture the rich biodiversity that defines our beautiful province. Nova Scotia is home to unique wildlife, pristine water bodies, and lush habitats that not only contribute to the natural balance but also bolster our local economy through tourism. However, recent actions by the provincial government threaten to disrupt this delicate balance and jeopardize the future of species at risk.

The areas at risk include some of the most vital habitats for species such as the mainland moose, the piping plover, and the boreal felt lichen, which are already struggling to survive. If these regions are compromised, it will lead to irreversible loss of biodiversity. This is not just an environmental issue but an economic one as well, as tourism in Nova Scotia heavily relies on our unparalleled natural wonders and wildlife experiences.

Deforestation, urbanization, and inadequate environmental policies are some of the key factors leading to habitat degradation. According to the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry, thousands of hectares of forest are lost annually, and this figure is projected to increase if proactive measures are not implemented.

To counteract these threats, we urge the provincial government to:

1. Keep our wildlife branch active and reinstate all the workers within. They are the key to keeping and maintaining our environment. Strengthen and enforce existing environmental protection laws to safeguard habitats.
2. Allocate more funding for conservation programs aimed at restoring and preserving endangered habitats and species.
3. Develop sustainable land use plans that balance development needs with environmental conservation priorities.

4.Keep our information centers open, to help visitors enjoy our province.

Let's come together to ensure that Nova Scotia remains a haven for our wildlife and a destination for people around the world who seek its unspoiled beauty. Our natural heritage is invaluable, and we must act now to protect it for future generations.

By signing this petition, you are taking a stand for the protection of Nova Scotia's wildlife habitats and our province’s environmental future. We must hold our provincial government accountable to adopt policies that prioritize and protect our treasured natural resources. Every signature counts towards making a change and safeguarding our vibrant landscapes and the species that call them home. Please sign and share this petition today!
