Dear friends,

a moving year comes to a close... thanks to your amazing support, the iuventa10 have come very close to their funding goal for legal costs in the trial (iuventa10.org). It is immensely relieving to know we can rely on civil society in dark times.

Different reports have suggested that 2019 was the worst year when it comes to the criminalisation of solidarity: Hundreds of people across Europe have to stand trial for handing out food, giving shelter, saving lives at sea. Many of them are refugees and migrants themselves. They suffer most from inhumane migration policies - and they do not have the same support structures we do.

One of them is the Syrian economics student Nour Al-Sameh. He is locked up in a Greek Jail for 4 years now. His crime? Searching for somewhere safe. He was convicted to 315 years in jail for alleged "human trafficking" when he was only on a boat to flee war torn Syria himself. A small group of friends has started this petition to demand his immediate release.

My only wish at the end of the year: Let's show Nour our solidarity. Sign now: https://www.change.org/p/european-court-of-human-rights-free-nour-al-sameh

Thanks a lot for your engagement,
Lea
