The Issue

6/12 EDIT:

We are working with and in support of the Blaine Teachers Union to STOP the closure of the Primary School Building!

Our Blaine Residents/ Community cherish our children and value high-quality public schooling that help them success. That's why we're concerned about outgoing Superintendent Granger's plan to close our beloved Primary School building (a building that was thoughtfully and carefully planed with our children in mind).

A law passed in Olympia this year which will bring Blaine Schools a much-needed infusion of $1.2 million in levy finding, that gives us the ability to pause the closure. By pausing we can continue to provide students with high-quality, uninterrupted learning and services while saving programs and jobs! More than 400 children call Blaine Primary their Learning Home - We cant let them down! and now we don't need too!

Please Share this petition with your email contacts and on your social media platforms!

Many of our students parents are unaware of the closure, many of our neighbors who don't have children are unaware of the closure. We are calling on all of you for your continued support and help!

Thank you to all of you who have already signed and shared. I never dreamed our little school district would reach 100 people let alone 451!!! Each and every one of you are making a difference and I and our teachers are so grateful for you.

EDIT: Even if you don’t have children attending the primary or elementary school, the proposed merger still affects you. There is an active bond funding the primary school, meaning your tax dollars are still paying for it. This building was designed for our community’s children, is more energy-efficient, and remains a financial responsibility for all of us. The proposed $600,000 savings from merging into the elementary building should work both ways—regardless of which building is used, we should theoretically save the same amount, especially since the primary school is the more energy-efficient facility

As parents of children attending the schools in this district and deep-seated members of this community, we find ourselves in a position where we cannot sit idle while decisions that directly affect our children's education are being discussed. Our children's school environment is set to transform drastically because of the proposed merge into the elementary building. This merge, we believe, is not in the best interest of our children's education. It's highly probable that the merge will dilute the quality of individual attention to each kid, and cause various logistical chaos.

Many parents are ready to pull their children out of this district and enroll them into other districts if this merge goes through. This highlights the level of dissatisfaction and worry we as parents bear over this matter. We are not against making changes for improvement. However, those alterations should maintain the integrity of our children's education and well-being.

We urge the authorities of our school district to reconsider this merge and explore alternatives that preserve our individual schools' strengths. The future of our children's education is the foundation of our community's progress. Together as a community, we can steer towards a direction that benefits all. Let's choose that path!

Please sign this petition to show your support against this proposed merge. You are not just signing a petition; you are taking a stand for our children's right to quality education. Let the voice of our disagreement be heard loud and clear. Together we can make a difference!

Blaine Elementary School, was originally constructed in 1948. Over the years, it has undergone several additions:

1959, 1967, 1973, 1975, 1990 and 2003.

Blaine Primary School, was originally constructed in 1994, with an addition built in 2004. In 2015, voters approved a $45 million bond, part of which funded the construction of five new classrooms at the school. This is the bond that is STILL being paid today. This bond does NOT expire until December of 2035! Our community agreed to this bond on the basis that it would fund additions to the Primary School Building for our communities students.
